Bait and switch. It’s a job that he wanted to do on his way home from work because it was such a small job. Job was to place two 2x4s then nail hardibacker for finishing a fireplace. And, mud-coat the wall on either side, each about 1’x4’. He needed to make a few trips. One was because the fireplace installer had to fix the chimney pipe before enclosing. The follow up visit took 15 min. I don’t mind paying a fair price. But I got charged $1000 for about four hours worth of work (if that). His reasoning was he charges that much whether he has one guy or three guys show up. He was the only one here. Plus, he said he had to make trips. He lives two blocks from here. Never again.
